June 28, 2024Why The World Celebrates The International Day Of Living Together In Peace
August 30, 2024Baking, the act of dry-heating a food without direct exposure to a flame, has existed for over
14,000 years, proving that humans can simply not live without it; hence every 17th May is a day
set aside to celebrate bakers all over the world.
The World Baking Day inspires people to take out their time to bake for their loved ones,
friends, and neighbors. In addition to celebrating them, bakers are also encouraged to give their
baked goods away as a token of gratitude and appreciation.
The idea behind the day is to spread the joy of baking all around the world, especially to those
who perhaps do not bake often and are not particularly experienced at it. The Bakers’ Day
holiday is filled with so much fun as people come together with their families, friends, and bake
together, offering a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
It also encourages everyone to go to their kitchens and spend their day baking some good treats
such as chewy brownies, cute cupcakes, decadent tortes, crunchy cookies, and crusty baked
bread.
History
People have been baking for thousands of years. For example, bread baking goes all the way
back to 600BC in Ancient Greece. The delicious, mouth-watering cakes we eat today started to
emerge for the upper echelons of society from the middle ages onwards.
It is also on record that the Egyptians were the first set of bakers to use yeast when baking bread.
Apart from bread, cakes were also a popular food to bake even though the earliest cakes were
more bread-like. Romans prized the pastry chefs, and those that introduced new baked goods
were ever popular at feasts and banquets.
However, according to research, the folks from the Global Baking Day came up with the idea of
the Worlds Bakers’ Day to celebrate baking and every baker all over the world. These folks
thought that it was high time to spread all over the world the joy of baking. The aim of this idea
was to show people how much fun it is to bake several treats and try out different recipes.
Additionally, the aim also was to promote the practice of baking for the enjoyment of oneself
and for sharing of good treats to friends and family members.
How the day is celebrated
The best way to observe this day is to bake some goodies for a friend, neighbor or loved one.
However, if you don’t have time to bake or you cannot bake, you could visit a local bakery and
celebrate with others as well.
The celebration is a fun and relaxing one as people get to bake and relax over a cup of coffee or
tea and perhaps a book, enjoying a piece of pie.
This annual celebration also presents participants with the opportunity to spend time with friends
and family, try out different recipes and teach their kids how to bake. Others go as far as hosting
a baking competition or cake decorating contest to celebrate this annual holiday.
The original idea of the day is to make and give away homemade cakes. But the day has since
evolved into baking and giving away all kinds of baked goods.
